Houston Boxer Rescue (HBR)  was born out of a deep love for the boxer breed and a desire to help end the suffering of boxers due to neglect, abuse, or abandonment. We dedicate ourselves to insuring that the dogs in our program get the second chance they deserve and never find themselves lost, alone, or abused, again.

SOMETHING TO HOWL ABOUT

Now that we are into the new year with the hustle and bustle of life settled down hopefully more folks will be stopping by the web site to check out the great dogs waiting for fur-ever homes!   HBR appreciates those who take time to visit the pups!  That being said, we would like to share two very special moments HBR experienced over the 2011 holiday months.

UNEXPECTED BOOST

Houston Boxer Rescue would like to express deep appreciation to the James S Fish Family Foundation for surprising us with their generous support in the form of $2,500.00!  The reality of their benevolence is that HBR was able to bring in more dogs from shelters where their futures were not guaranteed or death was impending.  This is not the first time HBR has been touched by the James S. Fish Family Foundation.  We are humbled at our efforts once again being recognized by a family far outside the state of Texas!  For sure there are some boxer loving folks in the Fish family, and it shows!  From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for making a difference!

A BOY AND HIS DOG

In April of 2010 a boy named Alex, along with his family, adopted a pup named Luke.  Alex and Luke became best buddies and Alex is totally devoted to his dog.  That a boy and his dog become inseparable may not seem unique.  Most of us know young boys and dogs go together like gravy on rice.  But Alex's love for Luke goes beyond their tight relationship.  For his 10th birthday in 2011, Alex informed his family and friends he did not want gifts.  Huh?  A kid refusing gifts?  What is that all about, you ask?  Because of the example set by his family in adopting a needy dog, Alex made a decision to pay it forward.  Alex told family and friends if they would gift him with money instead of presents, he would in turn donate what he received, to boxer rescue!  Alex made a donation to HBR in the amount of $150.00!!  His gift made a difference!  Dogs brought into rescue need vaccines, heart worm testing, heart worm preventatives, microchips, and tags.  These services bring the dogs' health up to speed and provide a guiding light home should they ever be lost!  As parents or relatives of children we often wonder if they are listening or even watching.  Alex proved he learned something valuable about character and compassion from his family.  This young man is a true leader!  He made a selfless decision to help other needy dogs so more families and children might have the chance to experience joy like he shares with his pal, Luke.  It doesn't get any better than that!  Alex, we know your family is extremely proud of you!  All of us at HBR want you to know we think you are AWESOME!!  Thank you so very much and we hope you and Luke have many great years together!

FOSTERING IS FUNDAMENTAL

Rescue is more than merely checking a dog out of a shelter and immediately placing it in the first interested home.  Fostering provides a stable environment where displaced dogs can be evaluated and restored to good health.  A place where trust is rebuilt and new skills are learned.  Fostering is the foundation of rescue.  For an organization such as HBR with no kennel facility, foster homes are crucial to our ability to save dogs from unnecessary death.  If you have ever wondered what you could do to help, becoming a foster home is an excellent place to start!   Be a life changer by making them One Less... One Less to Die.  Please take a few moments to fill out the foster application .  We are always excited to meet new people who have a heart to help our beloved boxers!  C'mon!  You can do it!
