Houston Boxer Rescue (HBR) was born out of a deep love for the boxer breed and a desire to help end the suffering of boxers due to neglect, abuse, or abandonment. We dedicate ourselves to insuring that the dogs in our program get the second chance they deserve and never find themselves lost, alone, or abused, again.

MEGAN'S STORY
HBR was contacted by Megan's owner/breeder a day after Megan was in a fight with another intact female boxer. Megan was refusing food and water, lethargic, had swollen extremities, with several deep and oozing puncture wounds. Megan's owner stated she did not have the financial means to obtain treatment for her.
The situation Megan was in physically, was precipitated by the ignorance of back yard breeding, although the owner stated she rescues boxers too. There were several intact dogs on the premises which included five female boxers two of which were pregnant, three male boxers, plus a cocker spaniel and a German shepherd. All dogs were routinely tied to a tree when the owner was away from the home. At other times they hung out in the house or upon a feces covered porch.
Boxers are one of the commonly called, bully breeds. Even outside the bully breeds, placing females together can present problems within a pack. But to place male and female boxers together, especially sexually intact animals that are hyped up on hormones, is a recipe for disaster.
By the time HBR could get Megan into a clinic, she was in extremely bad shape. For several days she was on IV fluids with antibiotics, and drains in some of the puncture wounds. Dressings were changed regularly while the swelling got worse. There didn't appear to be organ damage but Megan took a beating, resulting in widespread trauma to the soft tissue. She received hydrotherapy to maintain range of motion and reduce swelling. There was also evidence of old wounds. This was not her first emergency, and she is not yet ready for discharge.
Several days in the hospital has resulted in staggering medical fees. If you can help, even with five, ten, or twenty dollars, please visit Megan's Page, and click the 'Sponsor this Pet', link.
Houston Boxer Rescue tries to keep its doors open even when we know the cost will be great. The only way we can continue in that fashion, is with your help.
Thank You!
FOSTERING IS FUNDAMENTAL
Rescue is more than merely checking a dog out of a shelter and immediately placing it in the first interested home. Fostering provides a stable environment where displaced dogs can be evaluated and restored to good health. A place where trust is rebuilt and new skills are learned. Fostering is the foundation of rescue. For an organization such as HBR with no kennel facility, foster homes are crucial to our ability to save dogs from unnecessary death. If you have ever wondered what you could do to help, becoming a foster home is an excellent place to start! Be a life changer by making them One Less... One Less to Die. Please take a few moments to fill out the foster application . We are always excited to meet new people who have a heart to help our beloved boxers! C'mon! You can do it!
