Animal Success Stories

Skyline Bar

 ... Janine Allen  ...

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today. Sometimes the overworked shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.

I would promise to keep her safe.
I would promise to always be by her side.
I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.

I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven’t walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

SYDNEY

(11.2.12)  Thanks for checking on Bella!!! She is doing great and some days has so much energy you would think she was a 6 month old pup. Her allergies are still there and somedays I give her a benadryl however her ears have not gotten yeast again. I am anxious to bring her to vet to weigh her because she has become quite the big german girl...and begs for treats ALL DAY long. I am attaching a few pics of her sleeping in my room during day in cat bed...she likes small spaces. She and the cat have accepted that they are both here to stay as pictured with them in each others beds.  --Karen C.

SAM
SAM

01.09.2011
Now that the holidays are over we're all back to our normal routines.  Sam is a wonderful addition to our family and we love him dearly.  He has a gentle nature and is wonderful to both my children.  He and my son are best friends and he sleeps with him each night.  Sam knows his home is stable and the puppy in him has finally come out, although he remains pretty laid back for a boxer his age.  Thanks so much for checking in on Sam.

SAMANTHA

Just wanted to let you know we had a great weekend with Samantha.  She ignores my cat, gets along with the other dogs.  She does not like my bird, though, a cockatiel.  She is determined to get to it.  She is unimpressed with the horses and the pigs and chickens.  She seems to settle right in with the family.  We are loving on her and taking her with us everywhere we go so she will get used to all of us.  Thank you for working with us on getting her.  I'll email some pix soon.

(12.24.10)
Just wanted to drop you a note about Samantha.  She has become the love of our lives.  She has so much personality and if we just sit and look at her, she just talks to us like we are one of her. ;-)
She is just a beautiful, happy dog.  I am so glad we found each other.  Thanks for all you do with the rescue.  I have recommended you to several people.  Thanks again.     --- Mary S.

SNICKERS

(4.28.10) What was that candy bar slogan? "Snickers satisfies." Well Snickers does that and more. The new addition to our family has been amazing. My wife, daughter, and I could not be happier with Snickers. Snickers enjoys our morning runs, and lounging on the cold tile floor afterwards. Snickers loves to play and we love to play with her. My 8 year old daughter is doing great with Snickers' commands, but I think she uses them as just another way to sneak her more treats. We took her to the vet early this week for some preventative care products, and the doc gave her top marks. He said she was a very healthy, happy, and an energetic boxer. Our friends and family have always teased us about how we are so full of energy. Well this family has found the perfect match with Snickers. When it's time to play we play, and when it's time for rest we rest. It is such a blessing to have all the family on the same schedule. Thank you Houston Boxer Rescue for the amazing love and care you have shown. Our prayer is that we continue the greatness you started. Thank you, ---The Sellers Family.
