Animal Success Stories

Skyline Bar

 ... Janine Allen  ...

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today. Sometimes the overworked shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.

I would promise to keep her safe.
I would promise to always be by her side.
I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.

I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven’t walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

LEA

(9.26.12)  Love this little girl more than I ever imagined possible!  And trust me I have loved some dogs with my entire heart and soul. She brings such joy to me and Michael although she's getting into more and more mischief the more comfortable she becomes at the house.  She's such a little stinker.  She was meant to be with us and I feel Rocky is near by every time I look in that wrinkled up little face of hers.  Thank you for allowing me to adopt this little gem. --- Linda W.

LEXXI
LEXXI

(11.6.10) Lexi is wonderful and as sweet as we thought she would be. She is the princess of the house. My spouse’s elderly father lives with us and she is a great companion for him. Some mornings she makes several different kinds of sounds to wake us up just as though she were talking with us. We did have a big bump in the road. A few weeks ago suddenly she decided that she was going to do her “business” in the house. And she would not go out in the garden when it was dark. We talked with our great mentor from Bark Busters for advice. Nothing that he suggested worked. He was really surprised since these were tried and true method. She knew that we were very unhappy with her and became quite despondent. Her personality changed. I took her to her vet to see if she had a medical problem and she was fine. This lasted for two weeks. As a last resort, when it was dark, I put her on a leash and walked her very slowly all over the garden and the sides of the house. She heeled very close to me. We went inside and I praised her and gave her treats. The next day she went out with me and did what she needed to do without any hesitation. We praised her and loved her. She even talks to us when she wants to go out. We have the sweet adorable Lexi back again. It is such a special feeling to rescue a dog and have it become a part of the family.

LUTHER
LUTHER

(10.29.09) “We adopted "Luther" (we renamed him Toby) about eight months ago after our daughter Kayla begged her daddy for a dog. As you can imagine daddy's heart melted and we made the decision to adopt a boxer. He immediately became a member of our family. He is so sweet and gentle with our children, Kayla and Jack. Kayla gives Toby so much love and affection. Toby patiently endures the kids playing with him as they roll on the floor and each other. He goes on picnics and to the beach with us and is always a perfect gentleman. We could not have gotten a better dog for our family! We love him and are so happy to have him!”

LUCY
LUCY

(7.28.09) Lucy is in her new home and seems to be adjusting well, she was a little anxious at first which was to be expected. Attached are a few pictures of her first few hours. We will send updates and keep everyone posted on how she is doing. We could not be any happier with the new addition to our family!

LUCILLE
LUCILLE

Lucille seems happy and content with us and loves the attention from the girls. The other day I took the two little ones to their first day of Mother's day out and the oldest was in school. Lucille just couldn't get settled, she wandered from room to room looking for them and then would just stand in the hallway like she didn't know where to go. It was so cute watching her miss them! I thought the poor dog would go crazy with all the crying and the new tantrums the 2 year old has started throwing, but she seems to thrive on it. It's like she doesn't know what to do without the chaos. If the girls go too long without fighting or someone crying she'll look up from her nap on the living room floor, perk up her ears to make sure someone is still there, and then go back to sleep. She is a perfect dog for our family and I think she feels right at home here.
